Biography
When I am at the bedside of a patient, even during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, I know this is where I am meant to be. Cancer care can feel overwhelming, with complex decisions and uncertainty at every turn. I work to bring clarity, understanding and hope to each patient and family, helping them feel supported and confident that we will navigate challenges together and find a way forward.
I am a physician specializing in disorders and cancers of the blood and blood-forming system. I have board certifications in internal medicine, hematology and oncology. My clinical focus includes:
- Leukemia
- Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
- Myeloproliferative neoplasms
- Bone marrow failure syndromes
- Stem cell transplantation
I also lead the multidisciplinary Hematologic Malignancy Predisposition Genetics Clinic at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, which cares for patients and families with inherited risks for blood cancers.
I serve as an associate professor and leukemia and transplant specialist in the Department of Cancer Medicine at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute and am a member of the Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center. My work has been recognized with honors including Business North Carolina’s North Carolina Top Doctor designation and the Leukemia Research Foundation New Investigator Award.
My path to medicine began in biosystems engineering, where I developed a strong foundation in analytical thinking and problem-solving. Observing the meaningful relationship between my mentor and a cancer patient ultimately inspired me to apply those skills directly to patient care, combining science, precision and compassion.
In addition to my clinical work, I’m actively involved in research aimed at improving outcomes for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and MDS. I have led and contributed to early-phase clinical trials evaluating novel therapies, and my research also explores how genetics and healthcare disparities influence patient outcomes. My work has been supported by grants from the Leukemia Research Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and other organizations.
I earned my medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, completed my internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and pursued fellowship training in hematology and oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Prior to medical training, I earned a degree in Biosystems Engineering from Clemson University, where my passion for problem-solving and innovation first took root. Yes, I am a Clemson Tiger through and through!
Above all, I am committed to providing thoughtful, personalized care: listening closely, explaining options clearly and partnering with patients and families on every step of the journey.
